By the name alone, you might wonder why this is one of the best brunch spots in Pittsburgh. Oysters for brunch? Well, yes, they do have a variety of oysters, but if you aren’t an oyster fan, do not get stuck on the name! Not being an oyster fan myself, I almost skipped this place. But, this Louisiana-style restaurant has a Brunch menu with everything from Louisiana Lobster Rolls to Banana Foster French Toast.
I tried the Eggs in Purgatory – a poached egg sat atop a mound of braised pork in a tomato sauce served with a French baguette.
I could go on about their food, but the Bloody Mary bar is the real gem at this restaurant. A good Bloody Mary says a lot about a restaurant, especially if they are known for brunch. Muddy Waters blew it out of the water. In the very center of the room, you can spice up your house-infused vodka with oysters, bacon, pickles, stuffed peppers, cheese, and all kinds of hot sauce and spices.
Brunch isn’t just about the food, it’s about the company that enjoys it with you. The food was amazing, but the company was even better. The reason I chose to try Muddy Waters again on Saturday is because I discovered Pittsburgh’s chapter of Gals That Brunch. If you’re new to a city, Gals That Brunch is a fantastic way to meet people who love to brunch as much as you do. It is a global organization with a mission to find the best brunch spots around the world, and it truly brings people together. The Pittsburgh leader chose Muddy Waters, and I am clearly glad she did.
Muddy Waters Oyster Bar hosts brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, which is actually right in the middle of happy hour on Saturday (11:00 am to 1:00 pm)
